| LOUISIANA ASSOCIATION FOR JAZZ EDUCATION!!! Visit our new state site @ www.lajelouisiana.org/ LOUISIANA ASSOCIATION FOR JAZZ EDUCATION As you can see by the title of this letter, a new organization has been born: The Louisiana Association for Jazz Education (L.A.J.E.). I had mentioned that I would be in touch with you to let you know how our June 3 executive board meeting went. Here are a few important items to know: • The L.A.J.E State Jazz Festival will be housed at Northwestern State University for the next two school years. The next festival will take place on Fri. Mar. 13 and Sat. Mar. 14, 2009. We are really looking forward to filling up two days with great middle school, high school, and collegiate groups. The festival will be open to small and large jazz ensembles and there will be some informational jazz education clinics as well. • The main focus of L.A.J.E. will be to focus on being more visible within our state. • Some of our short term goals are increased usage of our website (which is being redone at this time), aiming to assist the educators’ needs, and giving jazz clinics at local schools and music stores • Membership issues were discussed and we are working on the final details at this time. More information on this issue will be sent to you in August. • L.A.J.E. is assisting L.M.E.A. with the 2009 All State Jazz Band clinician: Mr. Leon Anderson Jr. from Florida State University (as well as his being a Louisiana native). I just wanted to take a moment to let you know that we had a very productive meeting and that we will be meeting again in August in Lafayette to further discuss membership as well as many other issues of interest. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. We will be in touch! Andy Pizzo L.A.J.E. President L.M.E.A.
